Vermouth is a cyborg from one of 5 Great Families.
Following his destruction and his mind's installation into a pleasure automaton, he has become a member of Second Epsilon, though his loyalty to the group changes from time to time.
Personality[]
Similar to his kouhai Amaretto, Vermouth is shown to be a dirty mouthed and sarcastic man who likes to purposely get on people's nerves. He often employs crass and vulgar language in order to annoy or irritate those around him, riling up both friend and foe.
However, he is shown to be serious when needed. Beneath his wisecracking exterior he is very smart and extremely perceptive, deducing that Vainney Halter had his own plans and reassuring Marie of her bodyguard's loyalty.
His approach towards mercenary work is one of cold-equations. He will do what the employer requests and no further. He holds no loyalty towards any of his clients, claiming that in the line of work a mercenary may kill an employer they risked their lives for the previous day. Upon hearing Halter's reasoning, he begins to change, understanding that a skilled mercenary would never allow themselves to be placed into that situation. Vermouth takes the words of the more experienced man to heart, returning to the side of Second Upsilon before the closure of the Shangri-La Arc with a new outlook on how to perform his job.
Appearance[]
Vermouth is a serious looking man with a gear shaped lens covering his right eye. Two metal plates run down the left side of his face, extending down below his shirt. During his mission with Amaretto and Strega, he wore a dark black rubber suit to blend in with the darkness, relying on with short-distance resonance gears to handle communication.
Following his destruction his mind was placed into that of a pleasure automaton. In this form, he gained blue eyes and sported long blond hair reaching down to his hips. He wore a black body suit that revealed cleavage with a ribbon over his chest.
Abilities[]
As a cyborg, he is stronger than a normal human. He was equipped with a body "armed with the latest technologies", though it was no match against AnchoR.
Following his mind being placed into a pleasure automaton, he has not lost most of his bodily control, being able to fight alongside RyuZU against TemP before the Initial-Y Units activated their inherent abilities.
Character History[]
Relationship[]
RyuZU[]
Vermouth does not interact much with RyuZU during the Japan Arc. Following his temporary betrayal during the Shangri-La Arc, she briefly inquires whether he had returned to be reduced to scrap, but does hear him out when he explains the situation. This allows him to deliver AnchoR's mainframe, for which RyuZU and Marie are thankful, though they still aren't entirely certain he's on their side. RyuZU allows him to accompany her to confront TemP, though he is unable to assist much and spends most of the battle learning about the 3rd Initial-Y Unit . As the battle entered Y's realm, she instructed him to leave for his sake. In turn, he accepts her instructions as is and isn't bothered by her lack of a filter.
Amaretto[]
It's unknown what Amaretto thought about Vermouth, though he likely held the latter's skills in high regard, believing that if his senpai deemed an action to be necessary it must have been necessary. They displayed extreme coordination during their final mission together, able to communicate with nods and instantly understand what the other was saying. Vermouth also trusted him to carry out each of their plans for escape, showing a high degree of faith in the man's abilities.
Vermouth however, never considered him as a friend, only viewing them as being no different than himself, claiming they were all trash-like people.
Strega[]
It is unknown what Strega thought about Vermouth, though she held his skills in high regard. She relayed all information she acquired to him and followed his orders. In turn, Vermouth displayed much patience when explaining the politics of the Five Great Families to her in a way she could understand.
Marie Bell Breguet[]
He sent a message in code to Marie, "trash-talking" her and infuriating her. He often teases her, resulting in her freaking out and getting angry with him.
Vainney Halter[]
Unlike most members of Second Epsilon, Vermouth is well aware of the elder mercenary's prowess in the field, knowing him under his legendary title of "Overwork". He describes the man as being able to dazzle both friend and foe before completing the mission with his quick thinking and sheer command of the battlefield. Upon seeing Halter decimate the forces of the Shangri-La grid in mere moments, he was visibly shaken and later told the man that with that level of skill and preparation, he could likely defeat an Initial Y-Unit.
During the Shangri-La Arc, he very briefly commented on his views of being a mercenary, having often to kill an employer the very next day after protecting them. Halter responded by pointing out that a first-rate mercenary would have already disposed of the enemy who put the hit on the employer the day before they do. This enlightened the younger man, providing a step forward for his growth.
Kiu Tai Yu[]
The two first meet during the Shangri-La Grid arc, where Kiu pays Vermouth to work against Second Epsilon. Their working relationship is shaky at best, with Kiu simply telling Vermouth to do his job under threat of death. Vermouth on the other hand, doesn't appear to hold any loyalty to Kiu either, choosing shortly after their meeting to return to Marie and RyuZU under Halter's instructions. It is unknown what Kiu thought of this apparent betrayal or if he ever learns of such prior to his death.
Trivia[]
- Given that AnchoR only destroyed automata and cyborgs that she did not recognize as human, it can be inferred that Vermouth regained his humanity prior to his destruction.
- Like the members of his first team, Vermouth is his code-name.
- He smokes a lot.
Quotes[]
- (To Marie) "Knowing old man Halter, the scent of the battlefield alone would probably be enough to bring him back from the dead. Fair warning though, he'll likely to be in the worst mood imaginable." -Episode 9
